LA native Angela Muñoz debuts her hypnotic voice with her album Introspection released on Linear Labs. Muñoz is a prodigy, writing and singing music beyond her tender years. Her captivating voice carries strength and prowess, cultivated by a myriad of first-hand experiences and training in the art of sound.
At the age of 5, she discovered her distinctive voice and was considered an “Old Soul.” Her inspiration came from her musical home, whereby her parents shared old music videos on VHS. Muñoz recalls Guns & Roses' “Welcome to The Jungle” as the catalyst that sparked her desire to become a star. She began to play instruments such as guitar and piano. With practice, the budding star began to dominate singing competitions, leaving unexpected audiences in a trance.
Throughout the years, she trained herself by attending a performing arts middle school and high school in the heart of Los Angeles. There, she became obsessed with collecting new and old vinyl. Many of the artists were introduced to her by her older brother (writing partner) Brandon Muñoz. As an avid music collector, artists such as Nirvana,Donny Hathaway, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest and Cortex began to make an imprint on her sound.
A few years ago, her brother introduced her to Something About April, a record produced by Adrian Younge. The quality of the music left her intrigued. She thought it would be interesting to create a project that encompassed various perspectives, as Younge provides with his analog recordings. Shortly thereafter, she serendipitously found herself working with The Midnight Hour, a group comprised of Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest). In 2018, they debuted her song “Bitches do Voodoo” on their eponymously titled album The Midnight Hour; they also took Angela on tour, featuring her on NPR’s Tiny Desk.
Angela Muñoz is an old soul that finds solace in the sound of an orchestra, turntables, or the randomness that fuels her youthful energy; a prodigy who stands by her uniqueness, even if it doesn’t satisfy the status-quo. She believes the heart of music is emotion and this is where she finds her personal liberty and strength. With her commanding presence, she is destined to become a cannon in music for years to come.

The Midnight Hour is Black excellence: an ode to the cultural sophistication that the Harlem Renaissance established for its people. The Midnight Hour is comprised of Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Adrian Younge, alongside a tight rhythm section and a full orchestra.
The Midnight Hour debuted their self-titled album to great reviews and toured the US extensively. “It was during that tour last year that we decided to record a live album, capturing this new experience. The music you hear in our studio album is how we mean it to sound. But it’s something totally different when we have an audience in front of us. This recording is us wanting to give people a chance to hear what they can expect when they see us live.” On February 22nd, 2019, The Midnight Hour performed in front of a live studio audience at Linear Labs. This was a direct-to-analog tape recording that 200 very lucky fans were a part of.

When two of hip-hop’s most accomplished composers get together to make an album you know the results are going to be special. Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest) & Adrian Younge began their work together in 2013 on the critically acclaimed album There Is Only Now and their partnership cemented on their score work for Marvels’ Luke Cage. The Midnight Hour showcases the duo’s songwriting ability like never before.
Lead track and first single “Questions” featuring CeeLo Green is out today and has an unlikely origin story that CeeLo, Adrian and Ali originally explained to Pitchfork back in 2016, when a demo version of the song appeared as a sample on “untitled 06 | 06.30.2014.” off of Kendrick Lamar’s untitled unmastered. project. The completed track perfectly captures the album’s underlying roots in hip-hop’s origins and can be heard HERE.
The 20 track, 61 minute, full length double album, will be released on Linear Labs and distributed digitally by INgrooves and vinyl will be distributed by Traffic Entertainment, world wide on June 8, 2018.
